Movies nowadays are more of the franchises they belong to than the actors or the performances. The direction, the CGI and most importantly the characters, determine the success of the movie. Here are the best and most popular Movie Franchises around.

10) Transformers

Transformers sees Optimus Prime led Autobots and Megatron led Decepticons go head to head on Earth after the destruction of their planet. Based on the toy series by Hasbro and distributed by Paramount, the Michael Bay directed franchise has seen 5 movies released and 2 in development though Bay is no longer involved. The franchise has earned $ 4.3 Billion and 29% average approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

9) Pirates of the Caribbean

Johnny Depp starrer movie series distributed by Disney, has been a phenomenon. Everything from the characters to the theme song is loved by fans. The franchise has 5 movies and 1 currently in development earning $ 4.5 Billion with an approval rating of 48% on Rotten Tomatoes.

8) Spider-Man

“With great power, comes great responsibility”
Sony owned Spiderman series has been the building blocks of superhero movies based on the popular character of Spiderman from Marvel Comics. With Sam Raimi’s Spiderman series followed by the unsuccessful Mark Webb’s The Amazing Spiderman and now the successful collaboration with Marvel Studios for Spiderman has seen the franchise earn about $ 4.8 Billion and 77% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

7) X-Men Universe

Until recently owned by the 21st Century Fox Studios, the X Men Universe consists of 6 X Men, 3 solo Wolverine and a Deadpool movie making a total of $5 Billion. The studio has 3 movies releasing in 2018 and currently enjoys an approval rating of 73.3% on Rotten Tomatoes.

6) Fast and The Furious

The Vin Diesel and late Paul Walker starrer series, owned by Universal Pictures based initially on illegal street racing shifting to heists and action. The franchise consists of 8 movies, with Paul Walker appearing in 6 and Vin Diesel in 7, earning about $5.1 Billion. The series has not been popular with the critics and has an 55.875% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

5) Lord of the Rings

J.R.R. Tolkien’s novels The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings has been successfully adapted into movies with both the trilogies being a critical and commercial success. The ,New Line Cinema owned, 6 movie franchise earned about $5.8 Billion in the box office and enjoys an approval rating of 79.83% on Rotten Tomato

With 6 actors portraying the iconic MI6 Agent 007 James Bond, the latest being Daniel Craig, the series has been in regular production from the year 1962 resulting in 25 films being released. The series, owned by Sony, has earned $7 Billion with an approval rating of 70.8% on Rotten Tomatoes.

3) Harry Potter

The wizarding world of JK Rowling has been an exceptionally successful series owned by Warner Bros. with the 7 Harry Potter books converted into 8 live action movies and the spinoff Fantastic Beasts movies earning a total amounting to $7.7 Billion. The series enjoys a fandom of a whole generation of kids just like Star Wars and MCU. The series has an 83.44% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

2) Star Wars

The Marvel Cinematic Universe or the MCU is a Disney owned movie franchise based on the popular Marvel Comics. With 17 movies released, the MCU has racked up to $13 Billion in earning and there is certainly no end to it as the studio has lined up 9 movies till 2020 and recently bought the X-Men Universe from 21st Century Fox. Also, the franchise has an 83.11% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
