Deadpool: Top 5 Entrepreneurship Lessons Every Startup Can Learn

By mangoman | 5.0k |

Deadpool has stormed the box office and it's no denying that this relatively unknown character is now amongst the most known comic book character world wide. But how did this happen overnight? As talked all around, the film itself qualifies as a case study material for top B schools of the world and here we take a look why do we feel so...

5.Have Brains: Smartness over extravagance

While the average Joe's take the common route to their goals: get funding->spend lavishly -> tank...(no I am not referring to a certain house brokerage startup which was in news for all the wrong reasons)...Deadpool showed how you can make and sell a product without the moolah.
All you need is some brains.

4. Have Balls: Do not Compromise...

The makers of Deadpool definitely had balls of steel ( well we are not referring to Colossus). R-Rated superhero films have had a horrible track record at box office and 20th century was just recovering from the mega box office bomb Fantastic Four . But they stuck with the R rating script which did justice to the character...and boy it was Ahhsume....

3. Rise and Shine: What doesn't kill you, makes you Sexier...

I am not even going to talk about the clusterf**Ck treatment of Deadpool in its last outing. But what stands out that how this Deadpool himself made references to it and used it to his advantage for creating humor. By the way since X-Men: Days of Future Past wiped off the last shitty outing, we musn't complain about continuity here.
In short, embrace failures, learn from them and use it to your advantage.

2. Connect: If they love Chimichangas, feed them the f**kin Chimichangas

In simple words, know what your customers want. They want tacos, serve them tacos but if they want Chimichangas, serve them Chimichangas. Many a time during product development, we start taking assumptions what the consumers would like (Marketing Myopia) and at the end serve them what we like. Na Na..that's not how its done...and Deadpool is a sheer example where they served audiences what they were looking for...some freshness, some slam bam action , something out of the usual....

1. Substance with loads of Style

In all, at the end of the day, product matters. Remember Happy New Year and Dilwale ? Deadpool was a great product and it did deliver on the promises. And as said be Deadpool himself...With great powers comes great IRRESPONSIBILITY..the makers went crazy, and were highly irresponsible in adhering to the usual boundaries of creativity and formulas of success...and spun out a winner.

That said, we wait for Deadpool 2 in a hope that it doesn't fall in same brackets of the usual superhero film which it itself mocked. We hope we have more lessons from the next outing..especially how to sustain success...
