From Cable to Digital, Tv shows have transcended across all the media platform and adapted to the lay of the land.
Netflix has become a household name in the Tv industry right after it launched a series of good shows which was unfortunate for the traditional network houses like CBS, HBO, AMC to name a few.
Many players have tried to put their best foot forward in the online streaming space and we have some competition in the form of Hulu, Yahoo Tv(Now defunct), HBO Go and Now, etcetera. But one contender which has the potential of giving the Iron Man of online streaming a fight is the Dark Knight of Gotham i.e Amazon Prime videos. Let's see how they match up.

1)Origins

Netflix had a similar journey like that of Marvel Cinematic Universe. It started as a movie rental house and with one big hit in the form of House of Cards in 2013( Iron Man in MCU), it shot into the limelight and became an overnight star of online streaming with fresh content. Amazon, being a tech giant decided to foray into the online streaming business having a robust cloud architecture at its helm. Started as Amazon Unbox and then shifted to Instant Video Prime, there has been a lot of ups and down with its pricing policies (still its costlier than other competition) but its services were much more flexible in terms of its online catalogue and shows.Amazon shot into limelight in 2015 when the Amazon Studios arm produced 2 hit shows Transparent (which won at Golden Globes) and The Man in the High Castle .

2)Catalogue

Marvel has been known to have a plethora of superheroes and comic book character compared to DC and this holds true with Netflix as well. It holds rights to many premier shows compared to Amazon and others when it comes to:- a)Original Series b)Well known Series While the jury might be out on the movie catalogue as both Amazon and Netflix are in a constant state of war in that region, let's just say Netflix beats Amazon with its lower pricing and better social media outreach.
Netflix edges Amazon out due to sheer volumes

3) The favourite shows

This can be decided from a list (Highly customised based on popularity in no way means that other shows were left out) #Scifi :- Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey and Doctor Who #GenuineContent :- Rick and Morty , The Newsroom #EdgeoftheSeat :- Sherlock,Suits #BlastFromPast:- Stranger Things , Twin Peaks #NewVsOld :- Full House , Fleabag #DrugWars :- Narcos ,Boardwalk Empire #HighOnDrama :- The Crown ,Goliath ,Vikings #GoodWeird :- Sense8 , Hannibal #Politics :- House of Cards , The Man in the High Castle #Genius :- BoJack Horseman ,Mozart in the Jungle #RunOfTheMill :- Orange Is the New Black ,The Night Manager

4)Pricing

For Indian Residents, Both Netflix and Amazon have the first-month free trial (provided you register with a Credit Card). After that, Netflix currently follows the monthly subscription charges in the range of Rs500 to Rs800 per month depending on the number of phones and tablets on which you can download videos. Amazon has a special introductory pricing at Rs 499 for the annual subscription with free fast delivery on eligible items and 30-minute early access to top deals on amazon.in Amazon wins it in terms of pricing in India for Netflix still has a lot to catchup with licences and other technical and legal terms in India.

5)Availability

Netflix has almost painted the world red with its reach. (https://help.netflix.com/en/node/14164)
Amazon being a techie reveals that it is in over 200 countries (no world map/infographic sorry folks) with varied pricing based on demographics. More can be found at http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20161214005486/en/

6)For India

Both Netflix and Amazon have well-defined content for Indian audiences with Amazon having an upper hand in this segment providing yearly subscription at Rs 499 which also includes its Amazon Prime membership which is an added e-commerce advantage whereas Netflix is providing only a monthly subscription in that much amount. They do have stiff competition from Hotstar ( A Star Network initiative) and Voot (Colors Channel) but the jury would work in Amazon's favour for they provide all-around benefit to the customer.

Final Verdict

Netflix has upper hand with its original shows and riding on Marvel show's popularity and its safe to say that Amazon is one Marvel's Daredevil away from giving Netflix a serious competition, expect some fireworks in 2017 between Amazon and Netflix in TV section of course for the preparations have already been made as you can check over here:-http://www.mymovierack.com/blog/5-things-to-look-forward-to-on-tv-in-2017-qSr93Rs
