Last Week Tonight probably needs to towel off a bit and present a more relaxed half-hour next Sunday. The premiere outing nonetheless showed considerable ingenuity and a willingness to take on topics that haven’t already been parodied to death.

There was a great opportunity for the meta element here, considering the changes in horror movies along the past ten years. However, this cheap reboot is never original, basically redoing the same slasher of fifteen years ago. Also, the only actor who is actually good is Hayden Panettiere.

Keeping the story believable is ultimately of no consequence, because "The Expendables 3" is just a steady diet of bullets and bombs. It's a big blur. Only Gibson as Stonebanks is halfway amusing and we've seen him do this role before in "Machete Kills."
Ultimately, complacency overshadows creativity in the film, which seems to pander to mainstream expectations instead of taking risks.

The Exorcist, like most memorable Hollywood movies, gains its power from the way it mixes opposites: new-style realism and sexual radicalism, old-style horror and religion. When I first saw The Exorcist, I saw only the literal side of the story. But as I watched it again, I began to view the movie as a dark fairy tale about a parent whose child is experiencing a painful trauma.

Furious 6 is so entertaining that you don't notice Dwayne Johnson is missing from action much of the time, only that he kills it when he shows up.The action comes so fast and furious in Furious 6 that, for all the explosions and overturned cars and missiles fired on downtown Los Angeles, it becomes a dull muddle. Here and there, we get the imaginative and outrageous stunts this series is famous for, but mostly the movie plods along, muscling through without much life or spirit.
