Samir reviewed Sehar
Kabeer Kaushik’s directorial debut Sehar is a story of an honest SSP Ajay Singh and his combat with organized crime. Its a cop drama made as intelligently as Sarfarosh. Its not about a protagonist on a crusade against criminals and uprooting them single handedly rather a realistic take at battle between police and criminals. Arshad warsi’s portrayal of the honest cop is going to leave you wondering how underused this man’s potential is by restricting him only to comedies. Pankaj Kapur as the telecommunication expert,Suhasini and Mahima in their small roles are a treat to watch and bring the reels to life. MUST WATCH

It’s a movie that is going to leave a lump in your throat. Based on a true story the movie revolves around the struggle of a martyr’s family working their way through the corruption in our system. Captain Rohit Kapoor (Sanjay Suri) is killed in action and the government offers compensation, but the mother of the martyr rejects it. However, the father wants it for the sake of his son’s last memory but is denied of what is rightfully his and then their crusade against corruption starts. Apart from great acting by Om Puri, Revathi and Gul Panag what standsout in the movie are great dialogues and hard-hitting-realism. There are scene that are going to pierce your heart

>When Om Puri shows the proofs to cop that he is the father of Rohit Kapoor
>When he says “Mere bete ne desh ke liye jaan di hai” and a clerk replies “mere liye kya kiya hai ?”
>When Om Puri refuses to bribe a person and he says “Aaj Gandhiji aa gaye to unko bhi Sabarmati Ashram lene ke liye ghoos dena padega”

If you understood and loved what English Vinglish was all about, watch this movie. Its not light-hearted but more in-your-face realism. The movie is about equality of Indian women in marital relationships, suppression of their needs and desire, and its the most perfect movie while handling such a serious subject. As usual top notch performance by Tabu and all other actors. But all the credit goes to Mahesh Manjarekar for not succumbing to commercialism and having the guts to make a bold movie like this and most importantly for pulling off a climax Indian audience are hardly going to digest.
