Adapting an ancient story into film with the present world characters is not new to Indian cinema. Mani Ratnam’s Thalapathy, Raavanan and Anurag Kashyap's Dev D are loosely based on Mahabharatham, Ramayana and Devdas respectively.

Following the formula of these films, Pushkar Gayathri duo has made Vikram Vedha loosely based on the Vikramadityan Vetala tale. In the original story, Vetala teaches a moral story to King Vikramadityan in each episode. Similarly gangster Vedha (Vijay Sethupathi) cleverly unmasks the real wrongdoers to the upright cop Vikram (Madhavan). The film starts with an encounter episode, a fearless team lead by Vikram (Madhavan) and Simon (Prem) murders Vedha's gang. In the encounter, Vikram's team mistakenly kills Vedha's innocent brother Pulli (Kathir). Vedha knows Vikram is honest but the gangster smartly punishes the real criminals through the honest cop himself.

It's a treat to watch two intense performers Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi majestically own the screen together. Icing on the cake is the brilliant actors also got a terrific storyline and ingenious characterizations that we can't take our eyes off from them. For a change, the film also portrayed two real life intelligent women, Shraddha Srinath as the independent new generation lawyer wife is brilliant and Varalakshmi too has got an audacious and innocent role. The supporting cast including Kathir, Hareesh Perady and Rajkumar are fabulous in the film.

Vikram Vedha also stands out for the top notch technicalities, PS Vinod's camera angles perfectly captured the raw North Madras and Sam CS' score is undoubtedly the film's lifeline, his background score enhances each and every scene, particularly in the tense moments.

Overall, Vikram Vedha is a brilliantly written intense crime drama, which shouldn't be missed.

I felt like running out of the movie hall when I was actually watching the movie, but now, the next day, I still keep thinking about it..that's the impact. I'm really not sure if I liked the movie or not. The movie has obvious reference to the LTTE, Sinhalese conflict. I just wiki'ed for any conflict between Cholas and Pandyas and found out that, Pandyas and Sinhalese joint handedly were responsible for the downfall of the Chola kingdom, not sure how far this could be true ;) . The Onk Bak 2 inspired portrayal of cholas and pandyas is very violent and horrifying. Andrea is such a bad choice for her role. Parthiban is so BRILLIANT in the movie!1st of all, my salute to selvaraghavan for such a new effort in tamil cinema, 1st half was enjoyable, 2nd half had too many cuts in editing and loopholes in screenplay, if that was good, this movie would have been a masterpiece. Karthi- fine comic & matured performance, Reema- sensual fine performance, Andrea- nothing much for her, Parthiban- A different role in his kitty, Cinematography- Was mostly excellent, except few scenes (where it looks artificial), Music- was sad to see most songs didnt appear, particularly thai thindra manae song, good BGM, finally the master- Selvaraghavan, was little disappointing see he didnt work out the 2nd half screenplay, he had half done job. he is still one of tamil cinema's best screenplay writer and director, hope to great works from both Karthi & Selvaraghavan.

After establishing a market for herself by delivering female-centric hits like Maya and Aramm, Lady superstar Nayanthara is back with Kolamaavu Kokila (Coco). With debutant Nelson at the helm, Anirudh Ravichander takes control of the music and Sivakumar Vijayan captures this dark comedy smuggling thriller.
Throughout the first half, Yogi Babu appears in very few sequences. But just before you're let down by that, the second half gives ample screen time and importance for him to deliver hilarious punchlines. With the inclusion of his one-liners in the funnily constructed sequences, it works! Anbu Thaasan's characterization might seem to irk a few initially, but he too scores along with Yogi Babu in the second half. The base of the film is dark humor and it works in the majority with very few backlogs.

Saranya Ponvannan, Shivaji, and Jacqueline as Nayan's family members deliver sound performances and give some solid support. Hareesh Peradi and Charles Vinod prove to be good additions to the cast list. An eccentric character in the opposite camp adds value to the dark humor. Motta Rajendran's functional performance gathers a few laughs.

There is some attractive lighting in accordance with some interesting frames and Sivakumar Vijayan, the cinematographer can be credited for the same. Nirmal Kumar's edits are passable. Coming to the star of the moment.. rather, superstar of the moment, Nayanthara is a treat to watch on screen. She underplays her character with elegance and proves her expertise and experience with ease. Even her slightest of reactions are appealing and with a contrasting performance from her recent films, she is sure to grab the limelight.

Now, for those of you who thought this film doesn't have a hero, here's your answer. There most definitely is one! Anirudh Ravichander continues to demonstrate as to why he is a rockstar! The songs have already been chart toppers, and his BGM score is a sure shot winner. He sticks to Spanish mafia-ish, Narcos-esque scores that fall right into the mood of the film. A special shout-out for the placement of Gun-in Kadhal song and Vignesh ShivN's lyrics. It effortlessly hits the high note!

Simply put, snort this Coco to get high on laughter and entertainment!

Succumbing to personal pressures, Kokila (Nayanthara) is forced to enter a dangerous territory in which she is a fresher. Whether and how it helps her is what forms the crux of Kolamaavu Kokila. In a film that evidently deals with cocaine smuggling, it is appreciable that they have made sure not to insert any smoking or drinking scenes. Though they are perspicuous about not endorsing drug usage.

First up, it is an impressive debut for Nelson as his clarity on sketching the screenplay is praise-worthy. He plays with the dark humour in an engaging manner and establishes the motive of the characters from the word go. However, it must be noted that he has dealt with a beaten story. The laudable factor is how he has given a different dimension to it. The first half races towards the intermission and gives an adrenaline high when we walk out for the break. But, some sequences in the second half fall into formats. But this seems to work in the overall scheme of things.

With an ultimately satisfying end to all the built-up mass sequences, one might feel that the climactic buildup could have been more convincing. The titular definition was an interesting addition to the climax.

Theeran… can’t be merely brushed aside as just another addition to the long list of cop films in Tamil cinema. It earns its place and rightly so by giving us a competently-made film which almost shines in every department, particularly in action. It’s easily one of the most extensive action films in Karthi’s career and going by Tamil cinema’s standard, it sets a new benchmark. The action stretches are terrifically shot, especially one that unfolds inside a moving bus and then slowly shifts to on top of the vehicle.
Extensive research has gone into the making of the film and it’s evident in its screenplay. Vinoth shines as writer and director in making Theeran, while steering away from the usual clichés associated with cop films, stand out and root for characters for a change instead of actors. Karthi is terrific in one of his best roles. He’s fit and owns his part comfortably. There are no needless hero elevation scenes or punch dialogues which is usually the case with most films in this space. Instead, Vinoth makes us root for an upright police officer and we’re made to realize he’s the best in what he does.

Except for the tiresome romantic portion which can be overseen by the end of the film, Theeran is a gripping, explosive action drama that works despite its lengthy running time. The edge-of-the-seat narrative is extremely well supported by Ghibran’s score and he proves yet again why he’s one of the most underrated contemporary composers.
One of the reasons why Theeran is instantly likable.

A wall is a source of discontent between two political rivals. Kaali and his friend Anbu, who is a party worker, get embroiled in this clash, which only gets bloody thereafter Kaali (Karthi) is one of the well-educated youngsters in his ‘area’. His posh office is far removed from the middle class chaos that is his housing board colony. He has a great set of friends and he is closest to Anbu (Kalaiarasan), a political underling, who care for his people and hopes to avenge the numerous deaths that have been caused by the ill-fated wall in their locality. This wall has been a constant source of discontent for two political rivals. Spurred on by Kaali, who is a natural firebrand, Anbu, supported by the local politician Maari (Vinoth), decides to settle the matter for ever but it only earns him the wrath of Kannan (Nanthakumar), the rival politician whose late father’s image is painted on the wall. But Ranjith keeps defying our expectations in subtle ways. We think we know what the outcome of a scene would be but he constantly surprises us with how the scene is executed. The best example of this is the pre-interval block, which is as tense and suspenseful as the intermission point of Jigarthanda. A plot to murder a character is hatched and we know deep down that this character will die. But the death isn’t staged in a way that we expect. The character even manages to escape from this attempt and just when we think that things are going to get better for him, Ranjith stages the killing. Thus, it is as shocking to us as it is for the hero. In another scene which takes place in a restaurant, we see a character’s true colours for the first time and Kaali and his lover Kalaiarasai (Catherine Tresa, making a fine debut) come to this very place. We think Kaali will find the truth about this character and he does but in a least expected way. The romance is treated not as a track but as something integral to the plot. So, even when things eventually start getting routine-ish, like the hero finding himself in a position where he has to go on a revenge spree, we get scenes of Kaali and Kalai discussing the implication of his actions on their lives. The action scenes, too, get a twist. When Kaali takes on a dozen henchmen, the director crosscuts it with scenes of Kaali playing football, with just the ambient sounds of a football match acting as the BGM. AND THE MOVIE REVOLVES AROUND HOW THE WALL ISSUE TAKES LIVES OF EACH AND FINALLY HOW IT IS REMOVED ALL THE STORY REVOLVES AROUND THE WALL ONLY

THE BIG BOSS IS THE NEW CONCEPT GIVEN AS THE COPY OF HINDI SERIES BIG BOSS. BUT IT FAILED TO ACHIEVE THE LEVEL OF VIEW IN TERMS OF THE CONTESTANTS AND THE WAY THE SHOW GOES ON. IT IS FULL OF HUMORICAL AND STUPIDITY GOES ON CONTESTANTS FIGHT BETWEEN THEMSELVES FOR NO REASON. AND THE WAY THE SPEAK AND SHOW THE CHARACTER IS NOT GOOD AND SOMETIMES THE CHARACTER THEY SHOW AS VIEWERS FEEL ITS FAKE OR DISAGRRED BY WHAT THEY DO IN THE SHOW AND DOESN'T NOW HOW TO BEHAVE IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA . SO THIS SHOW DOESN'T ABLE TO REACH THE POPULARITY AMONG THE TAMIL INDUSTRY LIKEWISE THAT OF NORTH INDUSTRY. SO IT SIMPLY A WASTE OF TIME AND NOTHING TO DO AND BECAUSE OF WHICH IT MAKE US NOTHING INTERSTING TO WATCH RATHER THAN FIGHTING AND THE STUPIDITY THEY SHOW IN T HE SHOW.
