Full of action and drama, 1917 is one of the best movies I've seen. I see a lot of movies and a lot are good but few stick out like this one did. This was so visually appealing and creatively shot. The soundtrack is excellent. There were so many interesting minor characters and brilliant performances by the entire cast. If you have any vague interest in war stories absolutely see this.
Wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was, but honestly it was really funny and heartwarming. A fitting sequel to the first movie with well-written characters. The actors did a brilliant job, this movie showcases their talent well.
Lovable characters, excellent writing, and what possibly was a Roman Griffin Davis cameo (I swear that French newsboy was him)...this film is just brilliant. It made me care about racing and sparked an interest in technical drawing, something I've never even given a second thought about before. I never realized how cool Matt Damon was before this, and Christian Bale is just amazing. It's one of the few films that has brought me to tears. My heart literally sped up several times while watching this. I miss watching films where you can tell genuine love and effort has been put into them. A lovely tribute to the real life friendship behind this story.
The writing is brilliant, the visual aspects were picturesque, just about everything in this film is lovely. Every character is unique and human and complex. I don't like Scarlett Johansson all that much yet I couldn't help but love her character in this. Elsa, the Jewish girl hidden in the home of JoJo, is a funny, likable and realistic character. I love her so much. While generally comedic, charming, and light-hearted there are moments in this film that pull you back into reality and the seriousness of Nazi Germany and the war. There wasn't a single uninteresting moment. I understand if you have doubts about this film but I recommend seeing this if you have even just a slight interest. It's a beautiful film about a friendship that overcomes hate, as Roman Griffin Davis has put it. (He's a brilliant actor. I can't wait to see what he does next!) It's so nice to see an original take on WW2. I admire Taika Waititi so much.
There's nothing like a good, old-fashioned revolution. Victor Hugo's novel is a masterpiece and this movie does a wonderful job of bringing his book to life. My favorite characters have to be the students that make up the Les Amis de l'ABC, they were my favorites in the book too. But every character is brilliant, complex, and human. This movie makes me nostalgic for 1830s France and 2012 at the same time.
