2017, had been a good year for Bollywood. Of the movies that got acclaimed around were some women-centric movies too. The changing phase of Bollywood is clearly visible through these movies. Lets look at some of those.

1. Lipstick Under My Burkha

A black comedy produced by Prakash Jha and directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, the movie stars Konkona Sen Sharma, Aahana Kumra, Plobitha Barthakur and Ratna Pathak. It is the story of 4 women in quest of freedom from a conservative society.

2. Tumhari Sulu

Sulochana aka sulu is living with her husband Ashok and an 11-year-old kid in Mumbai. She is a happy housewife who is beautiful and energetic. However, her life goes through a total change as she becomes the night Radio Jockey of a famous radio station.Will Sulu be able to manage everything as she did before? Will, she stand up for her profession? Directed by Suresh Triveni, this movie stars Vidya Balan, Manav Kaul, and Neha Dhupia.

3. Anaarkali of Aarah

The debut film of Avinash Das, it is the story of a small town dancer. Swara Bhaskar plays the lead role. The dancer is harassed by a politician. She is ridiculed by police when she decides to give a complaint. But then she has decided to take revenge. Renuka Vyavahare of Times of India rated the movie 3.5/5 and called it an unexpected winner that stunts you with its authenticity.

4. Secret Superstar

Insu is born in a Muslim conservative family. She loves to sing and wants to be a singer. However, things dramatically change as she meets a real-life musician. The movie was directed by Advait Chandan and stars Aamir Khan and Zaira Wasim.

5. Naam Shabana

The mystery crime film stars Taapsee Pannu in the role of a secret agent who wants to revenge the murder of her lover. The movie directed by Shivam Nair was produced by Neeraj Pandey. It stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Akshay Kumar, and Taapsee Pannu. The movie is a spin-off of Akshay Kumar led movie Baby. The film got banned in Pakistan
