By Shriya Simran Pradhan | 1.6k |

Are Netflix or Prime just too time-consuming for you? Would you rather just devour a short and simple web series? (Or maybe you forgot to renew your subscription?) No matter what the reason, here is a list of some top Hindi web series on YouTube. While some are very popular and you might have heard about them from your circle, others are relatively less hyped about but definitely worth the watch.

Minus One | Just Human Things

If the entire concept of exes moving in together instead of moving on from each other isn’t neoteric, then maybe the impeccable chemistry between Aisha Ahmed and Ayush Mehra will be enough to lure you into watching Minus One . Based on real-life events of one of the writers’, the show explores the journey of Riya and Varun from each other’s plus-ones to minus-ones. Be it the hilarious segments or truly engaging side characters- Minus One nailed it in painting the picture of how much stereotypical the society has become in terms of exactly how much exes should be cordial with each other. What first deems to be a little dry given the lack of music and somewhat flawed regard to the story, turns out to be exactly what one needs to watch and learn that true life is frankly bare and slightly bizarre.

Cubicles | TVF

An archetype story of a man trying to realize his own potential and validation from work, Cubicles already had high expectations after TVF’s Kota Factory and TVF Tripling. Following a fresh out of college Piyush Prajapati, the story is somewhat of a collection of chronicles every other office newbie faces- from weekend plans to first salary to the equation with the colleagues- Cubicles presents us with approachable and engaging content. Abhishek Chauhan renders Piyush in the perfectly imperfect way- he is perfect in terms of being relatable and empathetic, and imperfect in the way every average human is. All in all, Cubicles is an endearing, charismatic show with a commendable music score and captivating portrayal of characters.

Adulting | Dice Media

Nikhat and Ray give us the perfect roommates goals- if their banters don’t look like an old couple fighting during the last days of their lives. Though a slightly unrealistic look on how two roommates survive the expense of living in Mumbai, Adulting is overall one of the best binge-worthy shows out there. The chemistry between Aisha Ahmed and Yashashwini Dayama adds to the show’s charm as their characters strive to make their lives a perfect one lead by millenials. The second season is a great improvement from the first, by touching on topics such as how a woman should be treated in a workplace, how dating terms have changed through the years and how different people invoke different friendships and equations. Quickly grab a bowl of popcorn and turn this show on to share some laughs with your roommate (or anybody- honestly, maybe just watch it alone).

What The Folks(WTF!) | Dice Media

While the equation with in-laws is something under the domain of daily soap operas, What The Folks(WTF!) completely gives the concept a much-needed makeover that is nothing but heart winning. The three seasons of the Dice web series explores the evolving and somewhat dysfunctional relationships between Nikhil, Anita and their families. Those who have watched a little too much of saas-bahu serials might find it a tiny bit unrealistic, but honestly, WTF doesn’t keep a perfect family facade. It is one of those rare shows that depicts a perfect family is a myth, no matter how ‘modern’ or open-minded you are. Be it the soundtrack “.. just don’t fit, makes me feel alright” that is indeed the perfect music for Nikhil Solanki who tries his best to be the flawless damaad or the cast’s performance in making the characters some of the very best to exist on the digital platform, What The Folks does an amazing job is justifying the story with its heartwarming one-liners and highly engaging concepts that are explored throughout the three-season series.

Pitchers | TVF

One of TVF’s breakthrough web series Pitchers as a talented ensemble cast- Jitendra Kumar, Naveen Kasturia, Abhay Mahajan, Abhishek Banerjee and Maanvi Gagroo. Refusing to bow before the hustle and bustle of life, four friends venture into a journey of their dreams and begin their own startup. The variegated characters depict some of life’s most perpetual concepts- from an overly ambitious team leader Naveen who isn’t afraid to explore the unknown to the approachable Jitu whose life is filled with expectations and frustration, to the rugged exterior but the driving force Yogi and the sole tether of the four, Mandal. From incredible one-liners like “Tu beer hai, aur teri company, bottle” indicating that the workplace bounds talent and potential from flowing free to the raw acting by the actors whose chemistry is just undeniable, Pitchers work in favour for anybody who likes good and quality entertainment.

Brochara | Dice Media

Female friendships are celebrated through passionate debates on feminism, the mutual hate towards no-pocket jeans for women and sometimes the occasional all men are the same. Dice had explored female-centric topics with Adulting and Home Sweet Office but made its venture into the field of male bonding through Brochara . Four colleagues navigate through their lives’ siyappas, all in long-distance relationships, all finding peace and solace in each other’s companionship (also some alcohol). The makers surely show their intricate knowledge about male friendships and Dhruv Sehgal, Varun Tewari, Amey Wagh and Sayandeep Sengupta pull of their hilarious chemistry together quite flawlessly. The storylines are straightforward and brisk, and to add to the charm, the series also stars Mithila Palkar.

Baked | ScoopWhoop

Talking about start-up ideas that pop in our heads in the middle of the night? Well Baked depicts the story of three friends who start a midnight food delivery service- which I for once, really need in my life- and all the troubles they fall in and misadventures they have in the journey. Described as India's “most ambitious original fiction web-series”, the web series explored the tale of three flatmates as they struggle with their academics, financial situations and the need to prove their worth. The performances by the leas actors- Pranay Manchanda, Shantanu Anam and Manik Papneja are really satisfying and praiseworthy, given that the characters themselves were written very well. All in all, Baked should surely be on your watchlist because of its laudable camerawork and direction.

Backpackers | Alright!

A very short yet touching web series, Backpackers is a story about Kanan who is set to have a solo journey after a bad breakup- but as destiny would have it (or in this case, the writers’ choice) he ends up sitting beside Era, a girl completely opposite from him and somebody he wished he could be like. This three-episode series is a journey of self-discovery for Kanan (played by Ambrish Verma) and focuses more on deep conversations and thoughts rather than on drama. If you want some food for thought and would like a thought-provoking story, you should definitely go for this.

Please Find Attached | Dice Media

Struggling to find a work-life balance, this mini web series explores the relationship between two colleagues Shaurya and Sanya who have their own problems finding their self-esteem and independence. With Ayush Mehra and Barkha Singh lighting up the screens with adorable and quirky chemistry, the topics explored and the script gives them the advantage of playing their roles well. Please Find Attached is a relatable, humorous watch which will go well with those who need a break from drama and over-hype.

Mom & Co. | The Zoom Studios

Ayush Mehra and Neliima Azeem feature in this Zoom web series, as a mother son duo who cope from the distance between them and start a business of their own- Aai’s Kitchen. Suhasini, a single mother, is an incredible cook- but her son Aditya fails to recognize her talent in terms of being ‘cool’ in front of his girlfriend and never eating his dabba. However, a series of events leads to Suhasini starting her own business of delivering food and soon Aditya joins the venture. The plot of the Mom & Co. is portrayed commendably, with small things like a diary being Suhasini’s only friend whom she can confide her thoughts make the series touching, given that the script is on point. Ayush Mehra and Neliima Azeem work really good together, the former surprising me how well he can pull off characters completely different from his usual range. Help you mom in the kitchen to make some snacks and watch this heartwarming series with her.

Home Sweet Office | Dice Media

Two wedding planners slash cousins are seen in Home Sweet Office as the battle with their internal conflicts, share their office as a home with their family, ponder over the marriages of their clients and go through life in general. All in all, this Barkha Singh and Isha Talwar starrer is a perfect blend of humour, good performances, real-life crisis and family bonding moments. The show has some good one-liners like “At times we feel that our friends have moved on, but we’ve gotten left behind. At times like these, you need to be the strong one, considering that you are strong, you are independent”. One of the cutest charms of the show are Adhira’s (Barkha) parents, whose funny nok-jhoks are too endearing and adorable.
