The 2016 Awards Season has come to an end and with it quite a few surprises as well (such as Spotlight winning Best Picture and Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl) triumphing over Kate Winslet to win Best Supporting Actress). The 88th Academy Awards were held on the evening of the 28th of February at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Hollywood. The star-studded event is considered one of the most prestigious awards ceremonies in the world, on par with the likes of Cannes. Here’s some trivia about the Oscars-

Leo isn't the only one who "deserves" an Oscar

While the internet celebrates Leonardo DiCaprio’s first Oscar, they seem to have forgotten quite a few others of equal, or better caliber who have been nominated but never won the Oscar, namely- Peter O’Toole – 8 nominations Glenn Close – 6 nominations Amy Adams – 5 Nominations
Sadly, Peter O'Toole passed away in 2013.

And that's not all...

Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Laura Linney, Matt Damon, Edward Norton and Joaquin Phoenix have 3 nominations each (Norton was nominated for his debut film Primal Fear ). Will Smith, Viola Davis and Robert Downey Jr have two. Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford have only one nomination each and Alan Rickman had never been nominated at all. There are many others who have given stellar performances but haven’t been recognized.
Well, at least the internet's happy.

Ennio Morricone won his first Oscar

Ennio Morricone, at the age of 87, won his first competitive Oscar for Best Original Score for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight . He was nominated a total of 6 times and won an honorary Academy Award in 2007 for his contribution to the art of Music.
Maestro.

Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki won the Oscar for the third year in a row

Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki won the Oscar for Best Cinematography for the third year in a row. He won for the period drama The Revenant , following wins for Birdman and Gravity the past two years. This feat has never been achieved in Oscar history. Looks like his decision to shoot entirely in natural light paid off.
"Chivo" means The Goat. It has been his nickname for awhile now. You can follow him @chivexp on Instagram and check out his work plus behind the scenes from his films.

Do you know what is common between The Revenant and Birdman ?

Alejandro G. Inarritu won Best Director for The Revenant after winning last year for Birdman . He is only the third person to win back-to-back Directing Oscars, after John Ford (1949,1941) and Joseph L. Mankiewicz (1949,1950).
This is one Mexican Donald Trump cannot keep out of the United States.

Mad Max: Fury Road won 6 Oscars

George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road a highly anticipated return to post-apocalyptic Australia filled with spectacular vehicular warfare won 6 Oscars, the biggest haul by a film that night: Best Film Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Design, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design and Best Make-Up and Hairstyling. This is the first time an all-out action blockbuster has won big at the Oscars.
What a Lovely Day.
