Movies You Need To Watch If You're Bored Of Marvel And DC

As Marvel (with Marvel Cinematic Universe, Fox X-Men Universe and Sony’s Spiderverse) and DC (with its DC Cinematic Assembly) dominates the Box Office, here are 5 recent less talked about Non-Marvel-DC movies.

1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The reboot of the hugely successful film series of the same name, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans) released on August 8 2014 distributed by Paramount Pictures. The movie revolves around the 4 turtles working with reporter April O’Neil (Megan Fox) and her cameraman Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett) to save New York from a group of criminals called the Foot Clan and its leader The Shreddor. The movie was critically panned with Rotten Tomatoes giving it an approval rating of 22% but was a commercial success earning $493.3 Million.

2. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

Loosely similar to Marvel’s X-Men, Tim Burton brings the Live action adaptation of the novel of same name by Ransom Riggs. The movie features an ensemble cast and the story revolves around Jack who discovers Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and finds that the children in the school have special powers with some even more powerful enemies. The movie released on September 30 2016 receiving mixed reviews with an approval rating of 64% on Rotten Tomatoes and earning $296 Million against a budget of $110 Million.

3. Guardians

The Guardians is a Russian Superhero flick loosely based on idea of the Fantastic Four directed by Russian Armenian filmmaker Sarik Andreasyan which released on Feb 23 2017. The movie is based during the cold war where an organisation called ‘The Patriot’ creates a superhero team who must come of their hiding at the time of crisis. The movie received overwhelming negative reviews with almost every reviewer criticizing the movie and was a box office bomb earning $4.6 Million against a budget of $5.4 Million.

4. Power Rangers

Directed by Dean Israelite, Power Rangers is a reboot starring Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Becky G and Ludi Lin as the power rangers. The story revolves around 5 messed up people who discover they are the chosen ones to save the world from the verge of extinction. The movie released on March 24 2017 receiving mixed reviews with an approval rating of 44% on Rotten Tomatoes but disappointed at the box office with an earning of $142.3 Million against a budget of $100 Million.

5. Hellboy

Based on the namesake character, created by Mike Mignola and published by Dark Horse Comics, who secretly works to protect the world from paranormal threats, Hellboy has two Live action movies to its credit. The first one HellBoy, starring Ron Perlman as the titular character, in 2004 was well received by the critics having an approval rating of 81% on rotten tomatoes and was a mild success earning $99.4 Million worldwide. Its sequel in 2008 bettered its predecessor’s approval rating getting an 85% rating and earning $160.4 Million. In 2019, Director Neil Marshall is bringing the reboot of Hellboy now starring David Harbour (Stranger Things ) as the demonic beast turned superhero.
