Bollywood never fails to surprise us. Often we discuss about surprise Bollywood HITS. So, now let me give you a brief detailing about the biggest DUDS of Bollywood which were of course, unexpected and shocking.

1. बॉम्बे वेलवेट

Based on Gyan Prakash's novel titled Mumbai Fables, Bombay Velvet still holds the record of being the biggest Bollywood disaster. Who thought that the Magnum Opus of Anurag Kashyap would be remembered only for being the biggest disappointment? Made on a high scale budget of 120 crores, this movie collected only 34 crores at the B.O. This one had to be on the top of the list.

2. Shaandaar

What happens when a National Award winning director delivers the biggest downer of the year? Shocking eh? Yes, exactly this happened when Shaandaar released in 2015 on the occasion of Dussehra. Nobody ever imagined that the Queen director would come up with a film that is too bizzare and confusing to watch. After a fantastic start of 13 crores, it managed to cross only 50 crores which is way too disappointing for a 70 crore movie with a great star cast.

3. Dilwale

Made on an extravagant budget of a whopping 150 crores approximately(including Promotion & Advertisement), history is evident that Dilwale badly lost the battle against Bajirao Mastani . Now, this wasn't expected from a Rohit Shetty directorial which marked the re-union of the magical jodi of SRK & Kajol after 5 long years. It managed to earn some profits, but it wasn't all that we expected. We expected a cyclone but all we got was a mere blizzard.

4. Jai Ho

When it is a Salman Khan movie, we all just wait to see records shattering. Unlike his other movies, Jai Ho broke the stereotype by performing miserably at the Box-Office. It received mixed appreciation from both the audience and critics. Made on a high budget of 100 crores approximately, this Sohail Khan directorial managed to recover its investments, but failed to create the required storm at the ticket windows.

5. Befikre

Okay, so altogether Befikre itself was a surprise, leave aside its underperformance. Who dreamt that the Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi director would come up with something that's too bold for television? Hence, excessive curiosity built among the masses. Still, this 70 crore film earned only in the vicinity of 60 crores in spite of starring Ranveer Singh who was riding high after the success of Bajirao Mastani . "Need to improve Aditya Chopra."

6. बार बार देखो

Some loved the film while some tagged it as 'Too Good To Be True'- this wasn't expected from the movie which was produced under the collaboration of Dharma Productions & Excel Entertainment. Directed by debutant Nitya Mehra, this movie dealt with the topic of ageing romance(time travel romance to be more specific) and hence, wasn't received well by the masses. As a result of which, it barely recovered its budget of 55 crores and nothing more than that. Please 'Baar Baar Mat Dekho.'

7. रॉक ऑन २

Despite earning accolades for the performances by the star cast, this sequel to the 2008 hit film Rock On!! failed to recreate its Magik at the Box-Office. Due to the franchise factor, there were some expectations but then it vanished in the blink of an eye, all thanks to the unappealing trailer and the poor music album. Hence, music which could've been its' only saving grace, turned out to be a huge letdown. As a consequence, this Shujaat Saudagar directorial venture ended its lifetime run after collecting a mere 16.70 crores. This Farhan Akhtar starrer was made on a moderate budget of 45 crores.

NOTE - Every 100 Crore Grosser is NOT always a HIT. It depends upon the Return On Investment(ROI).
