5 Unknown TV Shows of 2016 Which Are Worth Watching

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is adapted from two Dirk Gently novels, written by Douglas Adams (of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy fame). The show follows Dirk Gently, a ‘holistic’ detective and his assistant Todd (Elijah Wood) as they try to solve a murder case where Todd is the prime suspect. At first, the show does seem chaotic. There is a lot going on, especially in the first few episodes. There are plenty of head-scratching moments, but it is equally funny. And although things may seem random, it all comes together by the last episode. A bizarre and quirky show, way different than the other mainstream shows we get to see nowadays.

A 10-episode mini-series, The Night Of follows a young muslim boy- Nasir Khan, who is shown as a polite, honest and an innocent person. In order to get to party that his friends invited him to, Nasir steals his father’s cab and tries to make it to the party. Thinking that the cab is free, a teenage girl gets in. And one thing leads to another, and they end up spending the night together. However, upon waking up the next day, Naz finds the girls brutally murdered, and he tries to flee, but is caught. The show follows Naz’s trial, as he tries to prove his innocence even though the odds are stacked against him.

Another mini-series, The Night Manager is the tale of a night manager of a Cairo hotel (Tom Hiddleston) who gets involved with a dangerous man called Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie). His aim- to stop Richard Roper from passing a new arms deal which would cause great damage to a lot of nations. The whole show has a James Bond vibe to it. It is a classic thriller, and a very good one time watch.

This show follows the infamous trail of one of America’s most famous criminals, OJ Simpson. The show focuses on the lawyers of both sides of the case. The show boasts a stellar cast, and has been directed extremely well. The two-hour pilot was overseen by Martin Scorcese himself!

For a show that did not have a lot of buzz going into its release on Netflix, it has truly blown away the audience. It is an original series, set in the ‘80s and is undoubtedly one of Netflix’s best. The casting for the show is simply outstanding, the four child actors completely steal the show. The reviews for the show were so good that within a month of its release, Netflix confirmed its second season. I do not wish to give away anything about this show, so I’ll just say that this is one the best shows of 2016, and a definite must watch.
