2018: Looking Ahead To All The Superhero Action

With 6 Live Action Superhero releases and their success, 2018 sees the release of 2 more with a total of 8 Live Action Movies comprising 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Fox X-Men Universe each and 1 from the Sony Spiderman Verse and DC Cinematic Assembly each.

Black Panther

Marvel Cinematic Universe sees its debut in 2018 with a debutant of its own in Black Panther. With positive reviews to his brief introduction in Captain America: Civil War, Chadwick Boseman returns as T’Challa, king of the mysterious kingdom of Wakanda in its first solo movie. Directed by Ryan Coogler (Creed ), Black Panther is set to be the 8th Superhero to get its own solo origin movie and 18th otherwise in the MCU releasing in IMAX and 3D on 16th of February.

X-Men: The New Mutants

Following the light humoured Marvel Cinematic Universe, the dark DC Cinematic Assembly and the R Rated movies from Fox X-Men Universe comes a horror superhero movie in The New Mutants. With Director Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars ) at the helm, it is the 11th instalment of the Fox X-Men Universe. The movie stars an ensemble caste of Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch ) as Illyana Rasputin aka Magnik, Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones ) as Rahne Sinclair aka Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things ) as Sam Guthrie aka Cannonball, Henry Zaga ( XOXO ) as Roberto Da Costa aka Sunspot, Bla Hunt (The Originals ) as Danielle Moonstar aka Mirage and Alice Braga as Cecilia Reyes. The movie is set to release on April 13 after the first trailer released on October 13 2017.

Avengers: Infinity War

Certainly, the most anticipated movie of 2018 with a very distant second, Avengers: Infinity War sees The Avengers teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy going against the mighty Thanos. Director Joe and Anthony Russo (Captain America: Civil War ) are making a juggernaut of superhero films with 65 characters set to be a part of the movie with every major character appearing in the movie. The trailer debuted on November 29 2017 and was watched 230 Million times in the first 24 hours. Developed after 10 years of story building in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the movie is expected to be several steps up to the previous Avengers movies. The movie is set to theatres in IMAX and 3D on May 4.

Deadpool 2

Another highly anticipated sequel to Deadpool, Deadpool 2 is set to release on June 1 with Josh Brolin (Milk ) as Cable coming up against Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool. The movie directed by David Leitch (Atomic Blonde ) is set to become the 12th instalment of the Fox X-Men Universe following its predecessor in the R Rating and comic content.

Ant-Man and The Wasp

Peyton Reed (Ant-Man ) comes with the 20th Marvel Cinematic Universe movie and sequel to the Ant Man with Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly return as the titular characters respectively. It will be the debut of Evangeline Lilly’s character Hope Van Dyne as the Wasp. The movie is set to release in IMAX and 3D on July 6.

Venom

Sony finally brings Venom in development since 2007 to the big screen with Tom Hardy (The Revenant ) in the titular role. The film directed by Ruben Fleischer(Zombieland ) , will see Venom set in Sony’s Spiderverse including Spiderman in the MCU after the special Sony-Marvel Deal. The highly awaited film is set to go on floors on October 5.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Simon Kinberg is debuting as a director with the Phoenix Saga with his previous attempt on the storyline as script writer on the critically panned X-Men: The Last Stand which ended up killing almost all of the X-Men. The movie stars an assemble cast consisting of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Sophie Turner, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit- McPhee, Evan Peters and Jessica Chastain and will become the last X-Men movie under the Fox Banner. The movie is scheduled to be released on November 2.

Aquaman

December 2018 sees the only DC Cinematic Assembly release with Aquaman set to go on floors on December 21. Jason Momoa returns as Arthur Curry aka Aquaman and Amber Heard (All the Boys Love Mandy Lane ) as Queen Mera after their roles in Justice League with James Wan (Saw ) leading the project.
