Overrated!
Lot's of people and critics are praising about this movie. Some are saying that this is the best of this year up till now. But, frankly speaking, I'm not agree with these kind of statements or even these kind of positive reviews of this movie.
Director Shakun Batra, who earlier directed Ek Main Aur Ek Tu, which was not a hit, comes back with this family drama. I must say it is far better than the previous one.
The major plus point is the screenplay. Scenes have been written so well. Because of that, the shooting schedule had been completed in a shorter time, I guess. Actors are good. Location is suitable. Background score is perfect. And I think, because of the number of twists and turns is more in the post interval part, critics loved this film. But, I want to ask them, what about the boring portions in the first half!?
Alia Bhatt is as cute as she looks earlier in her films. Sidharth Malhotra lacks in acting in some scenes. And I heard this statement from many viewers. Rajat Kapoor is good. Rishi Kapoor is funny and adorable. His make-up is the only time-taking thing in the whole movie.
Two factors that affect the movie are Fawad Khan and Ratna Pathak Shah. She is the best actor of this movie. And for Fawad, if you please don't consider his character, haha, I like him. He looks hot and charming and stylish. So, a hero material has been found. He will go far and up.
Chul song is a waste of time for me. Two background songs are good. Comedy is fine. Bhajan in iPad, Mandakini the heroine, the plumber asking for the money- these are my favorite comic scenes.
So, I think this film is a one time watch. As I've seen Pyar Ka Punchnama 2 as an overrated movie last year, this movie stands for this category in this year. On the whole, I am confuse about what I get from the film. So the praising audience, who find out the meaning of life and relationships from this film, can you help me

You are penalizing it because others were praising it or you really didn't like it so as to give it 2.5 ?

@Amit No, I really didn't like it. May be because I've seen it in an open air theater.

Great
This is totally unbelievable. I was not excited for this movie at all. I thought this will be yet another family period drama with two brothers who get entangled in a love triangle. And it so wasn't. It proved me wrong and I am so happy about it. The only reason I decided to watch it is because someone recommended it and I am so happy I watched it. It's a beautiful movie, full of great performances and such a heartwarming story.
The cast of the movie is near perfect especially Fawad Khan, who really stood out for me. Also it was so great to see Ratna Pathak Shah back on screen. The trailers didn't excite me much and it might not excite many others either. But I highly recommend it. It's a really well-written family dramedy and definitely a must-watch.

3.5/5 More than expected
It rarely happens to get something bigger when having asked for little. Well, that's exactly what I felt, when I left the theater after watching Kapoor & Sons. The movie is distinguished by the excellent plot and, of course, its execution. Almost every emotion was revived within the 2 hours span. Lastly, this film has everything a viewer is looking for and is entertaining enough to write this review at a time when I am half asleep. #characterDriven #entertaining #mesmerising .

Sometimes there are movies you have been anticipating for months and you do a little prayer before it starts that it lives up to your hopes for it. This is a movie that not only exceeded my every expectation - it blew me away it was so excellent.

I don't want to spoiler this movie, because I really enjoyed going into it guessing what might happen in this intense family drama, but not knowing. I laughed, I cried, I gasped in shock at more than one point. This film puts you through the emotional wringer. I really cried at more than one moment in the film.

This is an incredible ensemble of actors. Rishi Kapoor was a hoot as a fun loving 90 year old grandfather whose sudden heart attack brings home the two brothers, played by Siddarth Malhotra and Fawad Khan. There are tensions and secrets that burst out over the family coming together again. The trailer plays up the romantic angle with Alia Bhatt's character, but that's just a small part of the drama.

I do love Siddarth, but he is the lesser actor of this stellar cast. The stand out, by far, is Fawad Khan. This Pakistani actor had his Bollywood debut in Khoobsurat in 2014, and I'll admit it, I caught Fawad Fever. I watched his entire Pakistani soap Humsafar (on ErosNow.com), and this guy can ACT. He's also incredibly generous with the actors sharing the screen with him. What a choice of a sophomore Bollywood role. It has felt like it's been forever since Khoobsurat came out, but this film was so worth the wait. When the movie was over I wanted to watch it all over again!

"Emotional drama which draws laughs in equal measure!!!"
With the T20 WC in full swing, the initial that the film might garner over the weekend will be affected for sure. However, at just 2 h it wont hurt to check this out as it would make you laugh & teary eyed over the course of the movie. In short, it is not thrilling as an Ind-Pak match but it does have its moments which deserves a one time watch!!!

Except for the #sluggish third act, the film #hasitsmoments and the verbal argument scenes are very well done. The #characterDriven plot has brilliant acting performances (well except for Alia who is doing what Alia always does). One of the few films where middle class does look and act middle class, be it the house arrangements or family conversations..The director of the film is someone to watch out for.

I expected it to be a love triangle kind of movie, but it is nowhere close to what I thought. It is a very well written, executed and directed. Each character unfolds its layers over time, leaving the sheer brilliance at the end.
