That being said, 2016 can be officially declared as an awful year for every field - economy, politics, Hollywood or foreign relations. So let's take a look at all the couples that broke apart this year.

1) Angeline Jolie and Brad Pitt

Starting the list with Hollywood's most coveted couple, who finally broke apart after 2 years of marriage, 12 years of being together, 6 children and a cancer scare. Kind of makes one lose faith in love, isn't it?

2) Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris/ Tom Hiddleston

This one didn't come off as a surprise though people were certainly surprised to see Swift dating Tom Hiddleston less than a month later. A messy twitter fight later (with accusations too biased to go into), they broke off too.

3) Mariah Carey and James Packer

It all began with a 35-carat engagement ring that Carey was seen flaunting, but by the year's end, it all fell apart at the seams.

4) Jennifer Meyer and Tobey Maguire

9 years of marriage and 2 kids down the line, Jennifer Meyer and Tobey Maguire decided to separate after "much soul searching" but stated that raising their kids together would still be their motto.

5) Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney

After five years of staying together and being engaged, the couple called it quits, while referring that they were only on a break and would reconcile if the situation so allowed.

6) Amber Heard and Johnny Depp

With brewing accusations of abuse, a tumultuous relationship and several public fall outs later, many weren't surprised to see Amber Heard file for divorce a little more than a year after their extravagant Bahamas wedding.

Thirty three years of marriage broken apart by rumours of Ozzy's affairs. While the nitty-gritty details are well out of the public eye, once can only assume what happened.
